Raking

Raking is started after all the excavating is done and while the dirt is still light. A 40” steel rake is towed behind an ATV to finish the levelling process and to pick up the sticks and stones that are on the surface. During this procedure we first look for low areas on the lot and rake the surrounding areas into them, filling these areas and concentrating debris.

We then attach a dumping trailer to the ATV, pick up the sticks and stones by hand and transport them to a central area where we can load them by the excavator for removal. Then lime and seed are spread using an ATV towed cultivator/spreader and a final finish is done by hand with wide landscaping rakes.

Forested areas on the lot are also raked using the ATV towed rake. The narrow width and light footprint of this unit allows for grooming of these areas without damage to tree roots. After debris is groomed, chips are brought in and spread to help with the levelling process and to add an organic insulating layer. Nitrogen is dispersed, using the ATV towed cultivator/spreader to help with the decomposition process and to prevent the chips from robbing the trees of the nitrogen that they need for growth.
